What do you call it when a government tells its citizens to report things that oppose its policies to a special government office? How about when the government puts out bids to contractors to develop programs capable of harvesting your personal communications? What do you call it when a government ignores laws on the books the prevent such actions? Whether you call socialism, fascism, communism or any of those “isms” – it is not American. It is a direct violation of our constitutional rights to free speech and unreasonable search. I am not naive enough to think such activities were not already going on under the so-called “patriot act”, but now the government has gotten so bold as to publicly solicit bids from computer contractors to make this happen.
