In the category of what’s wrong with this picture, USA Today posted a recent article showing that average salaries for government employees were higher than the same jobs in the private sector, by almost 13%. And this is only salaries. It does not include benefits, which would significantly widen the gap. Why is it that government workers, who have some of the most secure jobs on the planet, should receive higher pay than the private sector? Please stop and think about this carefully. Your government is taking so much of your money that they now make more than you! Have we returned to the time of serfdom? How is this justifiable in any way? Well, according to one government union leader, Colleen Kelley, President of the National Treasury Employees Union: “The comparison is faulty because it “compares apples and oranges.” Federal accountants, for example, perform work that has more complexity and requires more skill than accounting work in the private sector, she says.” This is a remarkably telling indication of the mindset/hubris of our government and its employees. I guess we should all be thankful that we have such smart and sophisticated people usurping our money. The article from USA (link below) includes a comparison chart for some of the jobs that are in both the federal and private sector that shows the disparity across numerous jobs. I guess we do need change, just not the governments version of change.
